Empowering Young Readers Through Digital Literacy
Siaya Community Library’s Collaboration with NABU
At Siaya Community Library (SCL), we believe that access to quality educational resources is a vital stepping stone to unlocking the potential of our community’s children. In partnership with NABU, a global nonprofit committed to eradicating illiteracy through equitable access to literacy resources, we proudly provided 10 schools in Siaya County with access to NABU’s digital reading platform during the 2023–2024 academic year.
About NABU
NABU is transforming the way children learn to read by providing free, accessible, and culturally relevant storybooks in mother tongues and English through their mobile app. With the NABU app, children can access hundreds of stories designed to enhance literacy skills, foster a love for reading, and celebrate diverse cultures. Impact on Local Schools
Through this partnership, SCL and NABU reached over 1,500 children across 10 schools in Siaya County, empowering them to explore a world of stories right at their fingertips. The initiative introduced students to a variety of books in both local languages and English, helping to:
- Boost literacy rates among early readers.
- Enhance digital literacy by teaching children how to use mobile apps for educational purposes.
- Foster a love for learning and storytelling, rooted in their own culture and language.
