Bridging the Digital Divide: Internet Connectivity for Schools

Siaya Community Library’s Commitment to Digital Inclusion

At Siaya Community Library (SCL), we understand the critical role digital connectivity plays in education in today’s fast-paced, interconnected world. To ensure that schools in our community are not left behind, we embarked on an ambitious initiative in 2021–2022 to bring internet access closer to local schools, equipping educators and learners with tools for extended learning opportunities.

The Pilot Program

During this period, SCL conducted a comprehensive survey of 15 schools to assess their digital needs and piloted internet connectivity solutions. This program laid the foundation for creating community-based internet access for schools, fostering a culture of digital learning and collaboration.

Objectives of the Program

The internet connectivity pilot was designed to:

Bridge the digital divide between rural schools and the global digital landscape.
Empower teachers with access to online educational resources for extended learning.
Equip learners with tools to explore digital platforms for research and skill-building.
Strengthen collaboration between schools and their communities through shared access to digital technologies.

Impact and Outcomes

The pilot program demonstrated the transformative potential of internet access for education. Among the key achievements were:
